Now hat’s a great idea for the two-hour gap in a hen party...

- OLGA CRONIN

HEN parties can be tricky things for those organi sing them. There’s always a few hours in the afternoon of said party that have to be killed doing a somewhat sober-ish activity before the inevitable night of not-so-sober madness ensues.

It’s difficult figuring out what that activity should be, given everyone’s tastes, budgets and capabilities.

Of course what the hen wants, the hen gets. But if she’s laid-back and doesn’t indicate a preference while some of her friends are, let’s say... more forthright about their dislikes, it can put the organiser in a right quandary.

Google ‘hen activities’ and the range of suggestions — many of which are lessons — is vast. You can take the hen and her mates to a dance lesson, a cocktail masterclass or, erm, sewing? Or you could go surfing, paintballing, zorbing or to a roller disco. But while the more sedentary lessons might bore someone silly, the sportier activities might make others run, or walk, away... very quickly. This is why a two-hour millinery workshop with Caithriona King Designs might do the trick. At €25 per person, everyone gets to make a headpiece each and the classes can be done at Caithriona’s studio in Corofin, Co. Galway, or at a venue of the party’s choice.

After all, it’s not dancing, cocktail making or... sewing. And surely you can imbibe in a tipple — to help the group bond

ahead of the raucous evening!
