‘My husband is lazy in bed’
AN aspiring bigamist who was living a double life and preparing to marry her second husband was recently exposed by her secret fiancé. Livingstone Chieza is said to have used his lover, Lucia Eriya’s phone to send text messages to her husband, Pingurai Kumbukani, during odd hours, thereby arousing Kumbukani’s suspicion.
Kumbukani works and stays in Harare, while Eriya was staying with the couple’s children in Biriiri, Chimanimani.
However, since the incident, Kumbukani has moved his family to Harare.
The matter was recently heard before Acting Chief Saurombe’s court, with Kumbukani putting a stop to the affair and his wife’s marriage plans.
He said he will never let his wife go as he still loves her.
Kumbukani also applied for compensation from Chieza.
He revealed that he discovered that Eriya and Chieza had an affair for four years, while preparations for their customary marriage were at an advanced stage.
“In 2019, my wife was contracted by a company that was building houses for Cyclone Idai victims in Chimanimani. I allowed her to seek employment as an independent woman.
“Little did I know that I was marrying her off to another man as she met Chieza there. Chieza was also working for the same company.
“In 2022, she approached me and said she had found a builder to build our house. I did not know that the builder was her lover. I let him work at my house.
“He was staying at the house and sleeping with my wife. I later got to know that my wife met Chieza’s parents and was introduced as his bride-to-be. They were making preparations to get married,” said Kumbukani.
He said he got to know about his wife’s plans after Chieza contacted him at 4am using Eriya’s phone.
When Kumbukani confronted Eriya that weekend, she confessed that she was having an affair with Chieza and asked for forgiveness.
Acting Chief Saurombe said while Chieza did not attend the court hearing, his parents were present.
He said Chieza’s parents were unaware of Eriya’s marriage status and were shocked and devastated by the revelation.
They said they had trusted Eriya and treated as their future daughter-in-law.
“Chieza’s parents revealed that they knew Eriya as their daughter-in-law for years after being introduced to her by their son. They also revealed that she would occasionally visit them and stay with their son.
“They were actually shocked to learn that Eriya is married to Kumbukani as they had embraced her as their son’s new wife. They thought that the whole case was a joke until Kumbukani revealed that he has chil- dren with
Eriya,” said Acting Chief Saurombe.
The chief ordered Eriya to compensate her husband with one bull.
In an interview, Eriya insisted that they were no marriage plans between her and Chieza.
“I visited Chieza’s family as a friend, not as his bride-to-be. I also met his parents and was introduced to them. We were acting like a married couple since 2019 when we were working together. I apologise to my husband for that,” she said.
However, she said Chieza is still in contact with her as he intends to marry her.
“I do not know why he continues phoning me after I told him on countless times that it is over between us. My husband bought me a new cellphone line, but Chieza now has the new number and phones me.
“He claims that he loves me so much and that he can never let me go. He wants to marry me. With the way Kumbukani is treating me lately, I am now confused,” she said.
Eriya claimed that Kumbukani has been emotionally and physically abusive ever since finding out that she was cheating on him.
“He should have just divorced me because I have become his punching bag ever since he found out. At times I harbour thoughts of leaving him and marry Chieza or go back to my
parents’ home,” she said.
Eriya said she cheated on Kumbukani as he is lazy in bed.
“That is why I ended up cheating on my husband. Chieza took care of me financially and sexually. Kumbukani also cheated on me and Chieza became my saviour,” she said.
