IT’S a pity that the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport is able to identify causes of road accidents, but ignores to suggest and implement solutions. They rush to suggest an increase in fines yet this is not preventative. What of the bad state of roads, unclear or non-existent road signs, stray animals that wander onto the roads? We need better management of our roads to avoid the tragic loss of life. — Gari Dube, Bulawayo.

*** Positive gains in maternal and newborn healthcare in the last five to seven years have been largely due to huge donor investments through the Health Transition Fund, now the Health Development Fund. Let us appreciate what the international community is doing for our great country. We should not forget the resilience of our healthcare workers who have resisted the temptation to skip borders for greener pastures. — Taurai Sando, Harare.

*** Government will have to improve on how to control the misguided and few criminal-minded farmers and ensure the 2017-18 phase of Command Agriculture will eradicate misuse of inputs. It’s like in any business, if you don’t tighten controls, pilfering will degenerate into fraud! This is why all societies have laws and law enforcement systems. For our economy to improve, we must harness or eradicate those with corrupt tendencies. — Cde Mzvinavhu, Harare.

*** We need to manage these disease outbreaks in the country so we can properly rebuild our tourism industry, which does not thrive in isolation. Imagine you were a tourist from outside Zimbabwe intending to visit Victoria Falls and suddenly there is news of a typhoid outbreak in the capital city, that is not a good picture. — R. Moyo, Harare.
