Thibaut Courtois provides update on his Chelsea future

-

CHELSEA goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has provided an update on his future at Stamford Bridge as links to Real Madrid continue to circle.

The Belgian shot-stopper has been linked with a move away and has openly flirted with the idea of joining Madrid.

The La Liga giants have been sweet on Courtois since his days at their cross-city rivals Atletico, but Zinedine Zidane’s side are reportedly looking at other options with Roma’s Alisson a target.

With that in mind, the Blue’s number one has given his biggest indicator yet he plans to sign a new deal and stay in west London.

“I’m committed to Chelsea,” he told the Standard . “I have a contract until next year and I will be here. I will do my best for it.

“Obviously, there is no extension signed but I don’t think now is the moment to do it. I think it is better to wait until the end of the season. All I can say is I’m committed to Chelsea and also committed for next year.”

The 25-year-old was heavily criticised for his performance in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona, but insists that’s in the past and winning the FA Cup and finishing in the top-four is his main focus.

“I have no other thing to say. It’s easy when you have only one year remaining that other people might say something,” he added.

“I’m a bit annoyed by it because it’s a talking point and it’s a thing people went to dwell on.

“But I think the focus now should be on winning our League games to get a top four finish and back in the Champions’ League for next season as well as going through in the FA Cup.

“That’s the most important thing and is what we have to do as a group and for myself as well.” — Mirror
