BULAWAYO, Friday, July 7, 1967 Though entries do not close until July 28, exhibitors’ interests in the Bulawayo Agricultural Show — September 6-9 — is building up rapidly, said the general manager, Mr Peter Roach, yesterday. Good cattle entries are expected from several areas, and good entries of slaughter stock, sheep and pigs.

The fat stock pens are being rebuilt. Individual pens will be larger this year. “We want to give exhibitors more room for their stock”, he said. Agricultural produce on show this year will, he believes be particularly fine.

In the home industries section there is an indication of record entries. The Horticultural Society will hold a flower show, and the Matabeleland Canine Association will hold a dog show. Commercial exhibitors will have stands in the Main Hall, on open sites and in pavilions.

They will be able to sell goods “across the counter” in the Main Hall if they take out temporary trading licences, Mr Roach said. This is a facility not available to Trade Fair exhibitors. Events in the arena will include horse jumping, a BSA Police display by a team from Salisbury, a display by the Rhodesia Railways security department guard dogs, and a high wire act by The Kusters, an ace circus group from South Africa.

“I feel we have lined up a programme with a strong appeal for the public of ages,” Mr Roach said. Mr Roach said that the late 1968 agricultural show in Bulawayo will be a “Royal” show.

“On June 16, 1966, the executive committee of the Royal Agricultural Society met in Salisbury and resolved that after the Royal Show in Salibury that year, the royal shows would alternate between Salisbury and Bulawayo. It will be held from September 11 to September 14, 1968.
