Maggie calls for home building
THERE is need for all citizens to exhibit a more positive approach towards national building if Zambia’s social and economic growth is to be realised, Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) board chairperson Margaret Mwanakatwe has said.
In her statement to mark the end of 2020, Ms. Mwanakatwe said as Zambians enter 2021, they should be goodwill ambassadors by sending positive messages to the rest of the world about the nation’s beauty and its development opportunities.
“We cannot overestimate the importance of inculcating a positive mindset among citizens in relation to national matters.
To this effect, we shall continue to pursue our programmes aimed at a National Mindset Education Programme for Zambia,” she said.
She said the PMRC remains committed to working towards supporting government institutions, agencies, and development partners in developing evidence-based policy recommendations for the effective delivery of the national development agenda. Ms. Mwanakatwe said the centre will continue to partner with all like-missioned institutions to bolster the efforts and work towards encouraging debate on social and economic policy issues critical to national development and economic transformation.
“We commit to continue providing policy analysis to compliment the government in pursuit of prudent macroeconomic policies, increasing the economy’s resilience to shocks, and achieve higher and inclusive growth,” she said.
She thanked stakeholders for the continued support rendered to the institution and added that 2020 brought several challenges for mankind but that Zambia had to adapt to new innovations amid the difficulties.
“The resolve we showed in 2020 should be an encouragement to us all that amidst challenges and uncertainties, we can stand firm and determined to achieve that which we plan to achieve,” she said.
Ms. Mwanakatwe also said the year 2021 is epic for Zambia as the nation goes to the polls in August to exercise sovereign and democratic rights of electing leaders at all levels.
