New centre of excellence cheers state
THE construction of the Centre of Excellence at Kasempa Day Secondary School is nearing completion.
Higher Education Permanent Secretary, Kayula Siame, expressed happiness with the workmanship during the tour of the facility.
The construction of the K1.9 million project started in April last year and comprises two science laboratory, two computer laboratories as well as a library.
The centre will be offering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and was being implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education through the National Science and Technology Council.
Ms Siame said the ministry decided to establish the centre in Kasempa so as to accord pupils in the district chance to specialize in STEM subjects.
She said STEM subjects were at the centre of economic development of the country hence Government attached great importance.
“I can safely say the works are at 95 percent and works done so far is very impressive and we hopeful that before the end of the year, the centre can become operational,” she said.
And Kasempa District Education Board Secretar, Collins Masumba, said with the coming of the centre, pupils would develop interest in science related courses.
Earlier, Ms Siame called on senior Chief Kasempa at his palace who expressed happiness with the establishment of the centre in Kasempa district.
The traditional leader said once operational, the centre would help pupils have a firm foundation in science and technology.
