Sampa said. Mr Sampa explained that intention of the proposal was to make sure that carrying out a merger was not burdensome.

“I think Zambia’s merger fees are currently the highest in the world, with a cap of maximum K5 million which is about US$250, we are basically saying why not reduce the cost of doing business by reducing the merger notification fees.

“So there is a proposal that has gone to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry. It has not taken effect yet, so that is where we are,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Sampa said CCPC was currently allowing companies which had violated the competition Act to pay in instalments as the commission was aware of the cash flow challenges which had come about due to Covid-19.

Mr Sampa explained that some companies were taking up to three months to pay for their fine while others went beyond.

“A lot of businesses lost cash flow, what we did is that if a business has violated and the competition act in one way or the other, we allowed them to pay in instalments,” he said.

ATHE BUUMBA CHIMBULU STANBIC has advanced discussions with South Africa on exporting of semi processed honey to that country, says Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Christopher Yaluma.

Digital financial services are becoming increasingly important as Zambia, like other countries, grapples with the spread impact of Covid-19.
