MINISTERS’ LIFESTYLE AUDIT NEEDED - MP
THE lifestyle audit on Ministers and Members of Parliament is needed because they need to be accountable, MMD Serenje Central Member of Parliament Maxwell Kabanda has said.
Mr Kabanda said it was a mandate that people in elected offices and public offices were audited so that the public can know how they acquired their wealth.
He said in an interview yesterday, people holding the public offices cannot run away from such a process as it was a must.
As Members of Parliament we always declare our assets when we go to Parliament we are subjected to be accountable, he said.
“As Members of Parliament we are subjected to declaration of assets every year, so if someone sees it fit that I am living beyond my means they are at liberty to go to the law enforcement agencies.
If you have seen that Mr Kabanda has changed his lifestyle because when we knew him three to four years ago he didn’t have what he is having today, you can tell the law enforcement officers to find out where I found this wealth.
Because at the end of the day as leaders we are accountable to people of this country,” Mr Kabanda said.
He said lifestyle audit had no harm on those in public offices because the people of Zambia needed to know how the wealth was acquired.
“So what we do is that I came in Parliament in 2016 with this, and the other year you need to show that I have added this to my wealth,” he said.
He said there was no need for individuals in the public offices to fear to be audited.
