30, 000 girls get Stanchart financial skills
STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia has in the last four years empowered over 30,000 girls with financial skills through the Goal Girls empowerment programme.
The bank has empowered the girls using sport over the last four years.
According to the Bank’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing, Christine Matambo, the institution aimed to influence behavioural change and engrain financial responsibility at an early age.
Ms Matambo explained in a statement that this was a key driver of financial capability, and provided individuals with the skills to take control of their finances and their lives.
She said Standard Chartered had a programme called Bank’s Finance and Wealth Management teams also held a Financial Education for Youth (FE4Y) which allowed employees to conduct meaningful community empowerment initiatives.
Standard Chartered Bank, Ms Matambo said, was committed to empowering Zambian communities through the community investment programmes.
“These include girls’ empowerment, tackling avoidable blindness, empowering vulnerable women, and tree-planting to tackle the challenge of climate change.
“The Financial Education for Youth (FE4Y) programme is particularly meaningful because bank employees volunteer their financial know-how to empower the youth to build both their financial skills and life aspirations,” she said.
This year, bank staff would conduct fund-raising activities for the Bank’s new Futuremakers initiative, aimed at empowering Zambian communities.
