Makembo guides Sports ministry, FAZ

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA and GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

FAZ and the Ministry of Sports should focus on working together to promote the growth of football in Zambia instead of engaging in petty squabbles, says Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) patron Peter Makembo has said.

FAZ and the ministry of Sports have been involved in a number of squabbles which have continued to develop since Emmanuel Mulenga replaced Moses Mawere as the new minister of Sports.

After blaming each other for causing the Zambia

under women s team

failure to travel to Morocco for the All Africa Games, FAZ and the Ministry differed over the planned engagement of Veselin

elu i of Serbia as national

team coach.

Mulenga had warned that Government will not issue a work permit to “handpicked”

eselin elu i of Serbia

should FAZ go ahead and employ him as Chipolopolo head coach.

Makembo said it is unfortunate that FAZ and the Sports Ministry have continued to communicate through the media instead of holding private meeting to discuss the engagement of a national team coach.

“ et s reconcile outside

the media for the growth of our game. This is a very simple case which can be resolved by dialogue.

Meanwhile, FAZ life-member Mwansa Mbulakulima says FAZ should have advertised the position of Chipolopolo head coach for transparency especially that

it is a public office.

In an interview, Mbulakulima, said in special cases, FAZ can head hunt for a coach but should have ensured they picked a credible coach and everyone would have agreed with them.

He said Zambia was going through a bad patch and it was disappointing that FAZ could settle for

Serbian eselin elu i

whose performance record lived much to be desired.
