Probe ‘mystery houses’ – Lungu

- By MARTIN AKENDE

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has directed investigative wings under the Ministry of Home A airs to corperate with the Anti-Corruption Commission and ensure the case involving the controversial 48 ats in Chalala in Lusaka is investigated to its logical conclusion.

Minister of Home A airs Stephen Kampyongo said President Lungu wanted all investigative wings to cooperateand ensure the matter thoroughly investigated and presented before courts of law.

Mr Kampyongo said the ACC could have done their part to forfeit the property to the State but there are elements the investigative wings could probe further to get to the logical conclusion of the matter.

“e instructions from His Excellency is that in as much as Anti-Corruption Commission does not fall under the Ministry of Home A airs he has instructed us to see that the agencies that fall under the ministry get to collaborate with Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure the matter which is under public debate is probed further and that the desire is to see the matter resolved in the courts of law.” Mr Kampyongo said.

He said owning properties had a trail because houses could not build themselves. Speaking to journalist in Lusaka yesterday Mr Kampyongo said there were other elements which other law enforcement agencies could probe further to get to the bottom of the matter.

“ere are other elements which law enforcement agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Commission can probe further because I heard sentiments such as such the person arrested pointed another person and this person is saying documents where fraudulently gotten. So there could be individuals behind that,” Mr Kampyongo said.
