CORRUPT GRAFT PROBE SLAMMED

…ZRP warns it will lobby for disbanding of ACC

- By MOSES SINJWALA

“It is only corruption when committed by government o cials especially those from certain provinces.”

THE pattern of ethnic based selective investigation and prosecution of corruption has been condemned.

“It is only corruption when committed by government officials especially those from certain provinces,” Wright Musoma has claimed.

He said it was strange the law enforcement agencies saw no corruption in Saturnia Pension Fund and in the manner Intercontinental Hotel was irregularly privatised and now how 48 housing units were constructed.’’

“Corruption should not be based on ethnic origin but gravity of offence.” he said.

ZRP president Mr Musoma said his party was giving the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) a one-week ultimatum to reopen the case involving 48 houses and other outstanding cases failure to which they will lobby for the organisation to be disbanded

Mr Musoma said his party was not going to allow such incompetence to continue with the ACC.

In an interview, Mr Musoma alleged ACC knew the culprits involved in the 48 housing units suspected to have been built from proceeds of crime but were obviously being economical with the truth.

Mr Musoma said ACC should avoid turning a blind eye to the truth in cases where they even knew the suspects involved in corrupt activities especially if, it was an opposition political leader.

“For example ACC had decided to turn a blind eye over dubious acquisition of Southern Sun Hotels in Livingstone despite having the record of facts with them,” he said.

Mr Musoma said facts of the case were on their table but nothing had been done about it even upto date despite receiving numerous reports. “Let them not think we are going to keep quiet about this. As long as ZRP exist we shall make sure that we speak about it until answers are found and corrupt people are brought to book,” he said.

Mr Musoma said apart from these cases ACC had also failed to take up the case involving the missing money and properties of the late President Frederick Chiluba.

He said the property and money of the late president had gone missing under the then task force on corruption but they had failed to take up the issue.

He said wondered why the ACC why was dragging its feet in finding the properties and money as they could not just go missing just like that.
