LUSAKA COMPANIES PARTNER TO SUPPORT WATER INITIATIVES
LUSAKA- BASED companies have joined hands to supplement Government’s efforts in promote water security in the city.
The entities from the private and public sectors, civil society as well as international organisations, have joined hands to voluntarily contribute their time and resources towards promoting water security and efficient use of water in the city under the auspices of the Lusaka water Security Initiative (LuWSI).
LuWSI was created in 2016 as a multi-stakeholder collaboration system inspired by the vision to ensure water security for the Lusaka residents and business organisations.
The companies in partnership with LuWSI intend to create a platform for dialogue and joint decision making and implementation of strategic water projects.
Last week the initiative held its second general assembly to elect a new team of board members for the next two years. During the meeting LuWSI members unanimously appointed Zambian Breweries director of corporate Affairs Ezekiel Sekele as the new chairperson of its steering board.
Mr Sekele will be deputized by Dr Wilma Nchito, a lecturer and researcher from the University of Zambia.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr Sekele said was humbled by the support received from general assembly members and representative organisations in Lusaka. Mr Sekele said the appointment was also good for Zambian Breweries because the company depended on water for its operations.
And LuWSI Coordinator Brenda Mwalukanga said Mr Sekele’s appointment was a perfect replacement because of his background and representation of a company that was an innovator in waste management.
Ms Mwalukanga said Mr Sekele understood the importance of water for both business and community use and that his appointment would help execute the mandate to communities effectively in ensuring solid waste management, sanitation and good hygiene practices
