Man dies in hit and run
AN unknown man on Thursday died on the spot after being hit and run over by the trailer of a truck belonging to O’Reilly Transport company along Mukwa Road in Lusaka, next to Daily Nation offices.
The Daily Nation crew who immediately rushed to the scene of the accident found the deceased lying in a pool of blood on the road, with a crushed head covered in a Chitenge while people watched in dismay from a distance.
According to eye witnesses, the man was giving way to the white truck at a junction at Zamtel as it was turning into Mukwa Road to head to Lumumba road.
One of the witnesses said that he even shouted to warn the man that the trailer would reach where he was standing but that the man did not respond in any way.
“Nenze nabapundila ba mudala aba ati imwe simuona truck izamibunkani (I told this man that you can’t see this truck, it will hit you),” he said.
The witnesses, who could not give their names said that it was like watching a movie when the man was hit by the trailer of the truck written ‘Jonda’ in front before falling to the ground where the rear wheels crushed his head.
They said that the driver just slowed a bit, observing what had happened through the mirror and sped off while shouting to onlookers that he was rushing to report the incident at the nearest office.
A good Samaritan sacrificed her Chitenge to cover the dead man as the rest of the people watched in shock.
The deceased had not been identified by press time.
