State commits funds on home economics equipment
GOVERNMENT has committed huge sums of money towards the procurement of various equipment for use in schools offering Home economics, says acting Chavuma District Commissioner Douglas Samukange
Speaking in Chavuma yesterday during the commemoration of the World Home Economics Day under the theme ‘’Skills for health and sustainable cooking’’ Mr Samukange said home Economics was being considered as one of the career pathway through which pupils could acquire entrepreneurship skills that could sustain their livelihood.
He said government attaches great importance to teachers that were involved in the realisation of the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP) which seeks to enhance skills expansion as a driver of economic growth in the nation.
Mr Samukange said government was keen to promote subjects such as home economics as they drive the development agenda as well as skills training that prepare sustainability.
He added that home economics teachers played a critical role in the community where society looked up to them as role models urging them to form clubs where pupils can use their skills to become entrepreneurs.
Earlier, North Western Province Home Economics Association of Zambia chairperson, Scholastica Choni said home economics was one of the vast subjects that attracted all human endeavours and helps in bringing up a child with life sustaining strategies.
