GOVT APPROVES NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL POLICY
By MUKOSELA KASALWE CABINET has approved the National Industrial Policy whose aim is to accelerate economic growth for Zambia through industrialisation, says Commerce, Trade and Industry minister Christopher Yaluma.
Mr. Yaluma said previously, industrial policy issues were covered under the Commercial, Trade and Industrial Policy, which covered both trade and industrial development matters.
The minister said the revised stand-alone would allow for emphasis on industrial development and encourage industries operating in Zambia to process the local raw materials into finished products.
In a statement issued yesterday by first press secretary at Zambia High Commission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali, Mr Yaluma said this on the sidelines of the SADC Council of Ministers being held in Pretoria.
He expressed confidence that the revised policy would help foster the creation of more in- dustries in Zambia.
“The move will help create employment for the local people as well as increase government’s revenue base,” he said.
Mr. Yaluma said the ministry was reviewing the trade policy which had been submitted for consultations.
He said once the policy was approved it would prevent the dumping of goods and services onto the Zambian market from other countries but enable it become an equal partner both at regional and continental levels.
