SUCCESSION DISPUTE DERAILS CHIEF’S BURIAL

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

A SUCCESSION wrangle has erupted in chief Musaka’s chiefdom after a named family ran way with instruments of powers during the burial of the traditional leader.

Chief Musaka passed on Friday at the age of 82 in Solwezi General Hospital.

Burial for the traditional leader which was supposed to be attended by Minister of Chief’s and Traditional Affairs Lawrence Sichalwe could not take place on time because the instruments of power were not available.

According to the Lamba tradition, a traditional leader can only be put to rest while the instruments of power are present. By 12:00 hours, yesterday family members and the royals were still consulting each other on the way forward.

But seniors later advised the minister to leave the matter to the family members and the royal establishment to resolve the issue of missing f instrument of powers when putting to rest the traditional leader.

By 13:00 hours, Mr Sichalwe left but urged the seniors to abide by the procedure because they knew the tradition and cultural procedures that should be followed when putting to rest and installing a new traditional leader

“So, such wrangles should not exist, he said. However, burial only took place around 17:00 hours after the family and the royal establishment reached an agreement though without the instruments of powers.”
