- By Vy Vy

Thousands upon thousands converged upon the heroic land of Dien Bien Phu for a grand military parade and cultural artistic activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of victory against the French.

Each image, like slow-motion frames, reminds the Vietnamese of a magnificent victory. The historic triumph of Dien Bien Phu is a symbol of Vietnam’s strength in its millennia-old history of national construction and preservation, reaffirming the truth that nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.

On the morning of May 7, as the military parade was about to begin, Dien Bien province was drenched in rain, yet it did not diminish the pride and emotion of the entire Vietnamese people on this momentous occasion for the whole country.

Helicopters took off from Dien Bien Airport, flying over the provincial stadium, carrying the Party and national flags. Prior to that, during the flag-raising ceremony, artillery was fired in front of the museum.

During the military parade, each contingent marched amidst the stirring military music echoing in Dien Bien Phu stadium and the streets.

The artistic formation impressed, with the performance drawing inspiration from the victory monument located in the monument cluster in the centre of Dien Bien Phu city.

There was also a touching and emotional reunion of Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers in the war, and labourers, many of them in their nineties.

Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets with thee military parades, waiting for up to eight hours to witness the performances. Among them were thousands of tourists from all over the country, eagerly anticipating the moment.

Meanwhile, as part of the Legendary Dien Bien Phu - Muong Thanh Spirit campaign, a simultaneous dance circle held by Muong Thanh Group encapsulated the spirit of the historic battle and rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

The Xoe dance journey commenced at Muong Thanh Grand Hotel in Dien Bien Phu, extending across provinces nationwide and reaching the offshore islands of Ly Son and Phu Quoc. It was performed from the northern province of Quang Ninh to the central province of Nghe An, crossing the border into Laos, and culminating in the capital of Hanoi.

Following this unparalleled performance, Muong Thanh Group was officially acknowledged by the Vietnam Record Association for the largest simultaneous Thai Xoe dance performance across the most locations.

At the record ceremony, Nguyen Van Hung, deputy general director of Muong Thanh Group said, “The dance idea was an initiative born from the desire to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu triumph, and a testament to our commitment to preserving and developing Vietnamese culture, a mission we have diligently pursued for over 30 years. Through this endeavour, we aim to convey a message of appreciation and consciousness regarding the preservation of our country’s historical and cultural values.”
