City, Caballeros to partner in the next Tunes and Tacos

Group to take over stage events, entertainment

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The City of Yuma and Caballeros de Yuma will become partners in the annual Tunes and Tacos event, as was announced during the Caballeros’ annual presentation in front of the City Council on Oct. 15.

Beginning with the 2020 event, the Caballeros will take over the stage events, including the entertainment. During this two-day event, the Caballeros will host a concert featuring numerous bands from around the nation that span across several genres of musical talent, including mariachi music. The city will continue to put on the annual taco festival, handling vendors and contests.

The partnership is a good fit from the city’s perspective, noted Interim City Administrator Jay Simonton. “The Caballeros have a long history of putting on successful events that attract not just locals but visitors outside our community as well,” he said. “This gives us the opportunity to make this event bigger and better, with minimal impact on our budget.”

“As an organization we are excited at this new partnership,” said Caballeros de Yuma El Presidente Jeff Ruby. “We are hoping to make this event bigger and better for the Yuma community. We are already in full swing of the planning phase, and we are ready to give the Yuma community an event like no other.”

“Through this partnership, the award-winning Tunes and Tacos festival will provide an established, successful platform to embrace and celebrate our culture, history, food and music,” said Carrie Ring, the city’s marketing specialist.

Tunes and Tacos will take place April 10-11. Admission, concert lineup and ticket information will be released at a later date. Visit TunesandTacos.com for updates.

Formed in 1962, Caballeros de Yuma puts on a number of well-known events each year, such as Midnight at the Oasis, Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival, Ken and Betty Borland Holiday Pageant and Tower Lighting Ceremony, and others.
