Yuma Sun

Thank you for supporting annual wreath project

-

We would like to extend a big thank you to Yuma and Yuma County for your generous support of our Republican Women’s Club project to purchase nearly 1,200 wreaths for our National Day of Wreaths Across America. It was gratifying for so many people to attend our two memorial services at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma and Sunset Vista Cemetery in the Foothills. The wreaths were placed by attendees on the graves of veterans to commemorate their service to our country. The services also gave thanks to all veterans and active military.

We especially thank James Gilbert and the Yuma Sun staff for excellent coverage both before and after the event, which took place on Dec. 15.

We would also like to thank the participating organizations, including the FFA of Gila Ridge High School, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Heritage Girls, Civil Air Patrol, Patriot Guard Riders, Vietnam Veterans Color Guard, Submarine Naval Group, Red, White and Blue Support Group, American Legion and bugler, and Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. And to our clergy: Chaplain Brian Kimball from MCAS and Fr. John Friel from St. John Neumann Catholic Church in the Foothills. Also Deputy Mayor Gary Knight, County Supervisor Darren Simmons, Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot and singer Wendy McKay for their participation.

A special thank you goes out to the staff at Desert Lawn Memorial Park and Sunset Vista Cemetery for their cooperation and assistance. APRYL BRAND Chairman of Wreaths Across America Rio Colorado Republican Women’s Club
