Support of Water Festival for kids was appreciated
On Thursday, Nov. 1, over 600 local 4th grade students from Yuma Elementary School District ONE, Crane Elementary School District and AmeriSchools Charter schools participated in the annual Water Festival at the Colorado River State Historic Park.
At the Water Festival, students rotated through four hands-on stations focusing on watersheds, the water cycle, water conservation and groundwater. Students came away with a greater appreciation for water and the important role it plays in our lives, as well as the importance of practicing water conservation to protect this important resource.
The annual Water Festival would not be possible without the amazing Water Festival coordinator, Susanna Hitchcock of the City of Yuma, along with the incredible support of the staff of the Pretreatment Section of the Utilities Department, the Bureau of Reclamation, CAROLLO Engineering, NAU-Yuma, Yuma County Cooperative Extension, Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, Arizona WET-Water Education, and the numerous volunteers from various local educational organizations who serve as volunteer presenters.
On behalf of Yuma Elementary District ONE, I would like to recognize and thank the City of Yuma, the corporate sponsors and the numerous volunteers who helped to put on an amazing event for our 4th grade students.
