Virtual Service to Commemorate Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Scheduled for Tomorrow, Jan. 18
The Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association will host a virtual service in commemoration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at noon.
The program can be viewed by visiting the Facebook page for National Day of Prayer Auglaize County Ohio (https:// www.facebook.com/auglaizedayofprayer) or on the St. Paul UCC web page, www.stpaulucc.com. Several participating churches will also broadcast on their own Facebook pages.
Local pastors and church representatives pre-recorded their prayer contributions, which were then compiled by St. Paul's pastoral intern Anthony Brookhart into the half-hour service, which is based upon a template provided by the Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute.
The theme for the 2023 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is from Isaiah 1:17, "Do Good; Seek Justice." The entire scriptural passage for the theme is Isaiah 1:12-18, lamenting a lack of justice among the People of God, yet it also promises redemption by encouraging acts of justice.
The 2023 theme was developed with the assistance of a group of
Christians in Minnesota, USA, convened by the Minnesota Council of Churches. Calling to mind our common Christian commitment to justice and mercy, we pray that the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, January 18-25, 2023, will be full of moments of conversion of heart through our ecumenical encounters, so that "all may be one."
Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, a Roman Catholic religious community of brothers and priests.
After the Second Vatican Council, when the Catholic Church made a full commitment to the modern ecumenical movement, the Friars of the Atonement established what was then called Graymoor Ecumenical Institute. As a ministry of the Friars of the Atonement, Graymoor Ecumenical & Interreligious Institute promotes Christian unity and interreligious dialogue in North America.
