LFO pitches back-to-back shutouts

- By Scott Herpst

The bats of the LFO Lady Warriors ran both hot and cold last week, but the pitching and defense were redhot as the Red-and-White picked up two shutout victories in subregion play.

LFO 11, North Murray 0

The Lady Warriors exploded for nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings last Wednesday night and went on to run-rule the Lady Mountaineers in a five-inning game in Chatsworth.

LFO led 2-0 going into the top of the fourth after pushing home solo runs in the first and second innings. But a four-spot in the fourth was followed by five runs in the fifth and the game would end just three outs later.

The Red-and-White pounded out 13 hits, including three by Kourtney Morrison, who also drove in two runs. Shaniyah Jones had two hits, including a triple, scored three times and knocked in three runs. Chelsea Lindsay was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Taylor Phillips singled, doubled and drove in two.

Other standouts included Haley Stahl (2-for-3, 2 runs scored) and Jerrian Jackson (1-for-3, 2 runs scored). North Murray hurt themselves with four errors.

Morrison was the beneficiary of all the run support. The senior gave up just two hits, walked one and fanned six in five innings of work.

LFO 1, Coahulla Creek 0

Just 24 hours later, the Lady Warriors managed just three hits and one run at Coahulla Creek. But thanks to Morrison and some errorless defense behind her, one run is all LFO needed.

The senior pitcher gave up four hits, walked three and stranded all seven Lady Colt runners as the Lady Warriors moved to 4-0 in Region 6-AAA North this past Thursday. Morrison fanned two hitters in the victory.

LFO (7-6 overall) got their only run in the top of the third as Jones scored on a Phillips single. Lindsay also had a single, while Lyndsey Teague doubled in the victory.
