The Steelers have a knack for drafting receivers on Day 2. After the Antonio Brown trade, it looks like the Steelers might have to work their magic again to fill Brown’s spot on the outside so Smith-Schuster can stay in the slot.
Right tackle
Pittsburgh’s offensive line has consistently graded out as one of the top three in the NFL. The trade of Marcus Gilbert created a hole. The Steelers emphasize athletic tackles for their zoneblocking scheme, so finding the right fit is necessary. This has been a need for a while, but the injury to Ryan Shazier has made it more so. Pittsburgh wants an athletic run-and-chase linebacker who can go sideline to sideline. If Michigan’s Devin Bush is available at No. 20, it will be very difficult for the Steelers to pass him up.
Cornerback Wide receiver
After being shredded by the Patriots and others, the Steelers have been going away from zone-based coverage. Artie Burns has been a total bust as a firstround pick. They could use help opposite of Joe Haden as depth for Steven Nelson.
Outside linebacker Inside linebacker
Alvin Dupree gives the Steelers an ultra-athlete at the outside linebacker position, but he has failed to give them the pass rusher they hoped for. Finishing 29th in sacks, the Steelers cannot trust that Dupree will become a pass-rushing specialist. Georgia’s D’Andre Walker would be a good fit and not a high pick.
