ANOTHER WINTER STORM TARGETS NEW ENGLAND
Yet another winter storm is poised to hammer New England with heavy snow and howling winds by the end of the weekend, just a few days after Thursday’s storm pummeled the region with up to 2 feet of snow.
The worst of the storm appears headed for eastern Maine, where a foot or more of snow and strong winds are expected, said the National Weather Service in Caribou, Maine.
Travel will be dangerous, with whiteout conditions and blowing and drifting snow, AccuWeather warned. Major airline delays and cancellations are likely.
YALE DROPS CALHOUN NAME OVER SUPPORT FOR SLAVERY
Yale University is stripping the name of a 19th- century alumnus who was a supporter of slavery from one of its residential colleges and renaming it for a more recent graduate, pioneering computer scientist and Navy Rear Adm. Grace Murray Hopper.
The change comes after several years of debate about the ethics of having a college named for former vice president John C. Calhoun, an 1804 Yale graduate who fought efforts to end slavery.
The residential college was named for him in the 1930s when it was built. At one point, it contained a stained- glass window that depicted a black man in shackles kneeling before Calhoun. The window was removed.
RUSSIA SAYS IT MIGHT HAND OVER SNOWDEN TO U. S.
An NBC News report citing U. S. intelligence sources says Russia might consider handing over Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency contractor turned whistle- blower, to the United States.
NBC wrote that “highly sensitive intelligence reports detailing Russian deliberations” suggest Russia is mulling the idea of sending Snowden back to the U. S. as a favor to President Trump.
Snowden called the report “irrefutable evidence” that he wasn’t colluding with Russians, despite allegations from U. S. House members.
