A talent show, alumni reunion and Lil Wayne concert. Oh, and a spring football game, too.

On Monday, the University of Colorado announced some of the details for its Black and Gold Weekend, centered around the Arrow Electronics Black and Gold Spring Football game on April 27.

Head coach Deion Sanders’ second spring game with the Buffaloes will be at 1 p.m. April 27 at Folsom Field and broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.

Tickets for the spring game will go on sale to students on Tuesday and to the general public on Wednesday. Tickets will be $15 for bowl seats, $25 for Byron White East Club seating and $5 for students.

That night there will be a postgame concert at the CU Events Center featuring superstar Lil Wayne. Outback Presents “The Show,” A Prime Time Weekend Party is supported in partnership with the CU Boulder Program Council. Tickets for the concert will go on sale today at noon for as low as $29.50 (plus fees).

On-campus parking for those who want to see the game and concert is $10 and must be purchased online.

The weekend will kick off with a talent show at the CU Events Center hosted by 5430 Alliance on April 25. More details to be announced later, but the show is free and open to all fans. Participation in the show is open to anyone by emailing primesgottalent@gmail.com to sign up.

On April 26, there will be the “Prime Elite Dinner,” with Coach Prime at the Nerd Wallet Touchdown Club. Contact the 5430 Alliance for details or to purchase tickets.

Also included that weekend is a CU football reunion brunch on April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Tickets for all events can be purchased at Cubuffs. com.

Edwards’ role

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur sees great potential in sophomore running back Dylan Edwards, who flashed his explosiveness last year.

“We’re gonna try to use his talents and his strengths,” Shurmur said. “Obviously, he can be very dynamic with the ball in his hands. He had a lot of production early on. And as the season wore on, I think it’s fair to say he got kind of banged up, too.

“Whether it’s style of running, running him to the perimeter, catching passes, try to utilize his strengths and practice them early and just not try to crank up plays like midweek for him.”

Edwards scored four touchdowns in CU’S seasonopener last year, but had just one more the rest the season, in the finale. He finished as CU’S leading rusher (321 yards) and caught 36 passes for 299 yards.

Back with Prime

New CU receivers coach Jason Phillips is thrilled to be reunited with Coach Prime.

Phillips, a star at the University of Houston in the late 1980s, played six seasons in the NFL, including three years (1991-93) with the Atlanta Falcons, with Sanders as a teammate.

Phillips also worked with Sanders as co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Jackson State in 2021 before taking a job with the CFL’S Hamilton Tiger-cats.

“It’s been a great experience (at CU),” Phillips said. “I’ve been with Coach Prime a long time. … I know his expectations. It’s a breath of fresh air for me to be here as opposed to being on my couch like I was last season.

“He demands excellence. He demands you to meet the expectations of the standards that are set. He’s a winner.”

Notable

CU has hired George Hegamin as director of leadership and engagement. A former NFL player who played with Coach Prime with the Dallas Cowboys, he comes to CU from IMG Academy, where he was the director of football.
