Suspect in hitand-run death captured

- By GIUSEPPE RICAPITO

A Jamestown man suspected of deliberately running over and killing a 42-year-old man in Jamestown earlier this month was captured outside of a Bass Pro

Shop in Manteca Tuesday afternoon and arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspect, Dylan Colby Moyle, 28, earlier Tuesday was spotted by investigative California Highway Patrol officers at 1:37 p.m. in the Knights Ferry area driving a 2006 Jeep SUV, according to a CHP news release.

The Central Division CHP Investigative Services Unit, which is based out of Fresno, followed the vehicle to San Joaquin County and conducted a felony traffic stop after it pulled into a parking stall at a Bass Pro Shop in Manteca.

Moyle was arrested without incident about 3 p.m. and booked into San Joaquin County Jail on a murder charge. He remained in custody at the jail as of Wednesday morning, according to public records.

Moyle was sought by the CHP Sonora-area office and the investigative services unit in connection with an incident on Oct. 3 when Matthew Winks, 42, of Jamestown, was believed to have been struck and killed by a car in Jamestown that fled the collision scene.

The pedestrian collision occurred about 6:50 p.m. on Fifth Avenue and Seventh Street in Jamestown, according to the CHP.

Following the incident, the CHP initiated a pub

lic search for a white 1998 F-150 pickup with a license plate number of 8D44514. It was located by the U.S. Forest Service in the Twain Harte area on Oct. 7 and seized as evidence.

When the search was initiated for the vehicle with a public news release, the CHP said the vehicle may have collision damage on the front right side and may have a damaged or missing rear tailgate.

Moyle was identified as a suspect through surveillance camera footage, the CHP said. Investigators also learned there was another attempt to run over Winks a week before he was hit and killed.

Moyle’s identity was released publicly by the CHP late Friday as the search continued.

The CHP has not identified any other persons of interest at this time.
