Talented lineup gives East Windsor a chance in District 12 tourney
When many sports were halted this summer, the East Windsor Little League All-Stars had their fingers crossed that baseball would be able to resume.
When District-12 got the go-ahead to host its annual tournament, the boys from East Windsor were among those most excited.
“They have a great attitude,” manager Joe Stables said. “The baseball has been great for our community. All these kids have been playing since they were little. They’re all friends in school, so they loved when we were able to play again. With other sports being canceled — all these kids play everything — it’s been great.”
The eight-team double elimination tournament, which was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, is scheduled to get underway on Friday with two games at Sunnybrae LL and two at Nottingham LL. All games after Friday’s opening round will be held at Sunnybrae, with the championship round set to begin on Saturday, Sept. 12.
East Windsor starts its tournament against West
Windsor at 5:45 p.m. on Friday at Nottingham LL.
Stables thinks his squad will be able to produce runs.
“We’ve got a lot of good hitters,” he said. “We’ve got some guys who can hit it over the fence and we’ve got guys who hit lasers all the time.”
Mix in some good pitching and East Windsor might have the recipe for a deep tournament run.
“You got to keep your composure,” Stables said. “As long as they keep their composure, which at 12 is not always easy, they’ll be good. It’s a really talented bunch of kids and if they stay positive, we’ll be good.”
