WW-PN, Notre Dame aim for playoff upsets

Four boys soccer teams from The Trentonian’s coverage area will still be alive when the New Jersey State Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n Tournament enters its second week, beginning Monday.

Two teams from the Colonial Valley Conference and two more from the Burlington County Scholastic League will try to advance to sectional final play today.

In the Non-Public A South Tournament, third-seeded Notre Dame will take the CVC torch south to Richland to take on second-seeded St. Augustine Prep at 2 p.m. Head coach Rich Leedom’s 13-5 squad will go after its eighth win in its last nine games against the 16-3-3 Hermits.

Also at 2 p.m. in Central Jersey Group I play, sixth-seeded New Egypt of the BCSL will try to stay hot when it heads to second-seeded Manville. Head coach Matt Carroll’s 107-2 troops will try to make it three in a row (and four of its last five) when they do battle with the 12-6-1 Mustangs.

Top-seeded Bordentown will host fourth-seeded Manasquan at 2:30 p.m. in a South Jersey Group II semifinal. Head coach Jason Zablow’s 15-3-3 club will be pursuing its fourth consecutiv­e win (and fifth in its last six games) when the always competitiv­e, 13-6-2 Big Blue Warriors come to town.

In Central Jersey Group IV, fourth-seeded West WindsorPla­insboro High North heads to top-seeded Hunterdon Central for a 3 p.m. showdown. Head coach Trevor Warner’s 14-2-2 team, chasing its 10th win in its last 11 games, will put its season on the line versus the 13-3-2 Red Devils. MERCERSBUR­G 5, HUN 0 PRINCETON >> After the Hill School clinched the Mid-Atlantic Prep League title outright Saturday with a 4-2 win over Lawrencevi­lle, the Raiders still had a chance to take second place with a win over the Blue Storm.

That outcome was not in the cards, however, as Mercersbur­g got a hat trick from senior Sam Morgan on the way to claiming second place in the MAPL. Mercersbur­g(12-3-4) 2 3 — 5
