SIXERS DROP TO 0-5 ON ROAD
NASCAR: Harvick gets shot at Cup title >> Kevin Harvick won at Texas to earn a shot at another NASCAR Cup championship.
Harvick shot past polesitter Ryan Blaney on the final restart in overtime Sunday. As the leader, Harvick took the outside line for the third restart in the last 35 laps. By time they got to the backstretch to start a green-whitecheckered finish, Harvick had already cleared the field. With Joey Logano and Harvick locked in after winning the past two races, the series goes to Phoenix next week with only two spots up for grabs for the championship run at Homestead in two weeks.
Kyle Busch, also a seven-time winner this year, and defending Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. are among the other six title contenders. Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch or Chase Elliott could advance with a win.
SOCCER: Red Bulls drop 1st leg to Crew >> Gyasi Zardes scored his 20th goal of the season in the 61st minute, helping the Columbus Crew beat the Supporters’ Shield holder Red Bulls, 1-0, in the opening game of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The second leg is next Sunday in Harrison.
Zardes had a sliding finish of a back-heel pass from secondhalf substitute Federico Higuain. It was Zardes’ third career postseason goal. New York goalkeeper Luis Robles denied Pedro Santos’ open shot from distance in the 89th, and Steffen blocked Bradley Wright-Phillips’ glancing header in stoppage time. New York’s best scoring chance came in the 27th minute when Tim Parker headed a corner kick off the post that deflected off Steffen and was cleared away. Columbus entered off a penalty-kick shootout victory over D.C. United while New York had a bye following its third Supporters’ Shield title in six seasons. The Crew are the only Eastern Conference team New York hasn’t beaten this year.
