Man injured in Trenton drive-by shooting

TRENTON » After more than a month without a resident injured by gunfire, violence in the capital city is starting to heat up.

A 24-year-old man was injured during an apparent drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon in the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue.

A New Jersey man has been sentenced to five years in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash that severely burned another driver who was then allegedly kicked and dragged by officers.

Leo Pinkston, 49, expressed remorse as he was sentenced Friday on counts of eluding police and aggravated assault in the June 4 pursuit in Jersey City, NJ.com reported.

“I sincerely apologize for my action and what happened and he is expected to survive his injuries.

Witnesses told police a dark-colored BMW sped through the area around 3 p.m., and that someone fired gunshots from the vehicle.

No suspect descriptio­n was provided.

Sunday’s incident marked the second capital city shooting in two days, after more than a month without anyone struck by gunfire. On Saturday, a man was shot and a car was stolen during a home invasion robbery in North Trenton. Police are searching for two gunmen in connection with that case.
