Local workshop will teach about HBCU opportunities
Local students interested in a secondary education at historically black colleges and universities can improve their enrollment chances by attending a free HBCU Fair.
The Omega Delta Upsilon chapter sponsors the Sunday, Nov. 12 event being held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mercer County Community College’s West Windsor Campus.
“Since their inception, Historically Black Colleges and Universities from across the country have provided opportunities for achievement and access to higher education for African American and international communities,” Harold Vereen said.
Vereen, a key organizer for the Fair, noted parents along with their high school seniors and juniors are encouraged to attend as 40 or more colleges and universities deliver presentations.
In past years, several HBCU’s have waived the application fee for students applying on-site and awarded scholarship dollars totaling over $1 million to students pursuing a college education.
Students and parents will also have the opportunity to attend workshops on Educational Goals for Life, Financial Aid 101, Exploring HBCU Opportunities after Community College and Making College Decisions / Why Choose an HBCU?
Parents and students must register to enter the Fair Exhibit.
Guests can avoid long lines and wait times by registering for the Fair and Workshops on-line at www.hbcu-cfnj.com.
This event is being sponsored by the Omega Delta Upsilon Foundation in conjunction with the Malcolm Bernard Historically Black Colleges and Universities College Fairs of New Jersey.
