Free flu shot in Taos

People are encouraged to get a free flu shot at Taos High School, 134 Cervantes Street, on Saturday (Nov. 7) between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The flu clinic is hosted by the New Mexico Department of Health’s Taos Public Health Office.

The flu shots will be given while supplies last to both children and adults at no charge.

Register for this clinic online at cvtestreg.nmhealth.org.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

• Masks are required and should cover both your mouth and nose at all times.

• A flu shot will not be provided if you have fever, cough or difficulty breathing or if you have recently tested positive for COVID-19.

• Only four people per car will be accepted.

The following people are at higher risk for developing health complicati­ons related to the flu, according to a statement from the Department of Health:

• Children 6 months through 4 years of age;

• Pregnant women (any trimester);

• People age 50 and older;

• People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions like asthma, diabetes, lung or heart disease, and those who are immunocomp­romised;

• People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities;

• People who live with or care for those at high risk for complicati­ons from flu;

• American Indians and Alaskan Natives;

• People who are morbidly obese;

• Health care and early childhood personnel.

Flu shots are offered in many locations, including doctor’s offices, hospitals and pharmacies, as well as by many employers and some schools. Public health offices throughout the state have flu shots available for those without insurance. Those with Medicaid who go to public health offices are asked to bring their Medicaid card.
