Rent prices increase nearly 2 percent in a year

Rent costs in Santa Clarita continue to steadily increase, data from Apartment List Inc. shows.

As of the beginning of April, the median onebedroom in Santa Clarita costs $1,760 a month and a two-bedroom costs $2,040.

Over the past month, rents have grown 0.9 percent in Santa Clarita, and increased 1.8 percent since April of last year.

Despite the increases however, Santa Clarita’s rents have not increased as much as those of other Los Angeles County cities.

Los Angeles’ rents increased by 3.8 percent since last year and 0.7 percent since last month. On average, a one-bedroom is $1,950 and a two-bedroom is $2,800.

Glendale experienced an 8.2 percent increase since last year and a 0.6 percent increase in a month. A one-bedroom in Glendale, with the second fastest growing rent in the metro area, is an average of $2,110 and a two-bedroom is $2,670.

Pasadena experienced a 3.2 percent increase since April 2016 and a 0.9 decrease since March. A one-bedroom in Pasadena costs $2,010 and a two-bedroom is $2,710.

Westwood tops all Los Angeles County neighborhoods as the most expensive, as the median two-bedroom costs $4,150 and onebedrooms are $3,000.

Long Beach, the county’s second largest city, had a 7.3 percent increase since last year but a 0.2 percent decrease since last month. An average Long Beach onebedroom costs $1,480 a month and a two-bedroom costs $2,080.

Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fullerton, Garden Grove and Anaheim were also listed as some of the most expensive places to rent in the metro area.
