Roger Williams Driggers,

86, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away on Sept. 23, 2020, in Little Rock, Ark.

Roger was born in Kilgore, Texas, to Hollie and Fleeter Driggers on March 30, 1934. He went to school in White Oak, Texas. He married Maggie J. Smith on July 29, 1961, in Lassiter, Texas. He graduated from East Texas State Teacher’s College. He worked as a principal at North Euless Elementary School, and retired from the Hurst Euless Bedford Independen­t School District in

1984 after 24 years of distinguis­hed service. He was also a post Korean War era veteran and served proudly in the U.S. Army. A committed man of faith, he was an active member for many years in the First Baptist Church of Hurst, the First Baptist Church of Nacogdoche­s and most recently Balboa Baptist Church. An ardent gardener, Roger left flourishin­g gardens everywhere he lived.

Roger is preceded in death by his father, Hollie H. Driggers; mother, Fleeter D. Driggers (Harrell); brother, Marvin Driggers; and sister, Elaine Tenery.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Maggie J. Driggers; daughter, Juli Wade (Michael); daughter, Martha Thornburgh; grandson, Jared (Alyssa); grandson, Chase (Sarah); two great-granddaugh­ters; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to public health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic, Roger will be buried in a private ceremony at the Smyrna Cemetery, near Ore City, Texas. Family and friends will be invited to participat­e in a celebratio­n of Roger’s life at a point in the future when we can all enjoy each other’s company more appropriat­ely.

The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciati­on to the compassion­ate staff at Mt. Carmel Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you honor Roger’s memory by planting a garden or choosing to donate children’s books to a local elementary school.
