Golf Scramble set for Saturday

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Village Breakfast Lions 2018 Golf Scramble fundraiser will be held Saturday at the HSV Magellan Golf Course.

Tee off is 10 a.m. The entry fee is $75 per player with lunch and prizes. There is a Golf Ball Drop with multiple $100 prizes for the golf balls that fall closest to the hole.

Proceeds help sustain the Lions’ Vision Screening program for around 2,000 children from 3 to 5 years old, and helps support charitable organizations including Leader Dogs for the Blind, SCAT, World Services for the Blind, FOCUS, Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing, National Camp for the Blind on Lake Ouachita, Arkansas Lions Eye Bank, Lions Club International Foundation, Cedar Mountain Boys and Girls Club, and the Lions Disaster Relief Fund.

“Lion Rudy Schaumberg seeks out community-minded sponsors such as Allen Tillery,” a news release said. “These two men share a 50-plus year history of community service.”

Tillery graduated from Henderson College in 1968 and began selling Chevrolet cars in Hot Springs. After working for three owners, he bought the dealership and later added Buick/GMC. He married his childhood sweetheart and lives on the farm he was raised on. “Through his work, he is privileged to serve his community by sponsoring fundraising events for worthy causes such as the HSV Breakfast Lions Golf Scramble,” the release said.

In 1959, Schaumberg began serving when he helped start the first Lions Club in Loda, Ill., where they built their own clubhouse. “As a major worker in the Lions’ fundraising events over these 59 years, he has at times served as president, treasurer and director. In Hot Springs Village he was originally in the Evening Lions and continues his service with the Breakfast Lions.”

Schaumberg seeks out such people as Tillery and other community-minded sponsors such as Ike Isenhauer, a State Farm Insurance agent, All American Classics, the Village Voice, and Jim and Mel’s Cars to sponsor the Lions’ fundraising events, the release said.

To register for the 2018 Golf Scramble, call Ken Wilson at 501-922-1029 or pick up a form at any HSV Golf Pro Shop bulletin board.
