No 15 Aggie women eliminate Arkansas

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Graduate student Devin Cosper and junior Malica Monk scored in double figures Thursday, but the Arkansas Razorbacks women’s basketball team dropped its second round game, 82-52, to No. 15 Texas A&M at the Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament in Nashville.

Cosper scored 15 points in her final game as a Razorback, while Monk added 13 points. It was Monk’s 29th game of the year to score in double figures out of 31 contests.

Arkansas (13-18) wrapped up its season with the loss, while Texas A&M (23-8) advanced to face LSU (19-8) today.

Arkansas and the Aggies traded baskets to start the game, but Texas A&M put together an 8-0 run hitting 10-for-10 field goals to close the first quarter. They took a 10-point, 23-13, advantage into the second quarter where their hot shooting continued. Arkansas’ six second quarter points tie a season low in that frame.

The Aggies finished the game shooting 50 percent, 33 of 66. They hit nine 3-point field goals and had three players in double figures, including two players with double-doubles.

The Razorbacks got eight points from Jailyn Mason, seven points from Taylah Thomas and six points from Keiryn Swenson who hit a pair of 3-pointers. Malvern’s Raven Northcross-Baker played 19 minutes off of the bench.

Arkansas forced the Aggies into 18 turnovers, the 27th time Razorback opponents have had double-digit miscues. The Razorbacks committed just five turnovers, their 11th time this season with single-digit turnovers.

Coach Mike Neighbors took over the program for the first time in 2017-18 after the Razorbacks went 43-49 in three seasons with former coach Jimmy Dykes.
