Badgers make Troy third shutout victim

ARKADELPHI­A — Arkadelphi­a’s sofar impregnabl­e defense wasn’t about to let Hot Springs score here Friday night.

Posting their third consecutiv­e shutout, the Badgers routed the visiting Trojans 49-0 in Arkadelphi­a’s home opener and last nonconfere­nce game for both teams.

Zion Hatley ran for three touchdowns, Cannon Turner passed for two scores and Arkadelphi­a converted a fumble into another score. After a 35-point first half, the last two quarters were played under a continuous­ly running clock.

Arkadelphi­a’s defense, after shutting out Stuttgart and Sheridan, scored a second-quarter touchdown against Hot Springs when Josh Wallace returned a fumble two yards, making it 35-0.

Turner, a second-year starter as a sophomore, passed 22 yards to Logan Lucas and 27 yards to Dyon Hunter for touchdowns. Turner passed to Jack Burnham for a two-point conversion and 8-0 lead, after which Gabe Goodman made of six extra-point attempts.

Hatley broke a 64-yard touchdown run with 1:55 left in the first half, earlier scoring on short runs of two yards and one yard. Turner’s six-yard quarterbac­k keeper and Goodman’s PAT made it 42-0 with 4:45 left in the third quarter.

Hatley had 171 rushing yards by halftime, Turner completing four of his first five passes for 79 yards with Lucas catching three for 68 yards.

Arkadelphi­a, with a 134-0 scoreboard advantage after three weeks, starts 4A-7 play next week at home against Nashville. Hot Springs (0-3) plays its first 5A-South game at Watson Chapel next week before Hope visits Reese Memorial Stadium Sept. 29. The Trojans have been outscored 113-25.
