Greg Batterton

On Oct. 5, 2015, we lost a very special man, Greg Batterton. Greg was not a traditional soul and this will not be a traditional obituary.

Greg lived a life that would not be considered normal by public standards. All of his family was important to him. He spent 34 years with his soul mate and wife, Marsha, who supported him on his journey of life. He has two great sons, Bradley and Brian, he left his mark on and who will carry on his legacy. He loved his parents Howard and Lois June. Siblings, Steve and Lisa Batterton, Randy and Tana Batterton, Barbara Batterton and Keith Schultz, Kim and Shane Gower, Jenny and James Adams, Alicia and Greg Dobbins. Too many more to mention …

He never met a stranger, loved everyone he met and everyone loved him. He was just one of a kind.

If you were fortunate enough to spend any time with him, you would realize he had a passion for life and was always working the crowd. “Stay on the dots” and “Live it up” were common statements that you would here Greg say. He loved being an auctioneer/ ringman and a musician. He would say “I got’em right where I want’em.”

He believed every person was special and were worth spending time on. He understood the Golden Rule better than anyone and the importance of how you were supposed to treat other people.

He was a kind and gentle soul, always ready to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on or just an ear to vent to. Then he would know just the right thing to say to let you know everything may not be perfect, but it was going to be okay. He could just always make a bad situation into a good one.

Sometimes the best stories never get fully told. They reveal themselves instead in little odds and ends here and bits and pieces there. They arrive on terms we cannot control, in ways we will never be able to entirely explain and will always leave us wanting to know more.

Greggo sir, we are going to miss our therapy sessions and that wonderful sound of your harmonica. We know you were tired. You fought the good fight, and we will all be sitting on the edge of our seats waiting to see you again.

A visitation will be held from 5- 7 p. m. today at Gross Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p. m. Friday in the Christian Life Center at First United Methodist. Burial will follow in Rushfork Cemetery.
