Adam Brown Shamrock Run/ Walk set for March 8

- JEFF SMITH

PEARCY — The memory of Lake Hamilton graduate and Navy Seal Adam Brown will be kept alive when the school hosts the fourth annual Adam Brown Shamrock Run/ Walk 5k at 8 a. m. March 8 at Wolf Stadium.

Brown was killed in action in Komar Province, Afghanistan in March 2010.

“In true Adam Brown style he died a true hero, placing himself in the line of fire to protect other members of his unit. Adam’s Special Ops Assault Team was assaulting an enemy compound, an operation Adam had performed many times. The U. S. Forces were engaging the enemy in a fire fight, when a portion of the U. S. soldiers were pinned down by very heavy fire from the enemy compound. In an effort to protect his men, Adam charged the enemy from a better vantage point, drawing fire away from his pinned down comrades. His selfless action relieved the fire on his men, but it unfortunately resulted in Adam being struck by enemy fire. One other member of the American Team was wounded, but Adam’s heroic action saved the other men. The enemy compound was captured and all enemy combatants were killed in the action,” Brown’s memorial website, Adam’s Legacy, said.

The event is a fundraiser for the Adam Brown Legacy Fund, created in Brown’s memory. Charities that benefit from the fund include Teen Challenge, While We Wait, RPM House, Haley Gloria, Sheila McDill, Ali Vise and Haley Piatt.

The Adam Brown Legacy Fund is administered by the Arkansas Baptist Foundation in Little Rock.. Tax deductible gifts and all proceeds donated to this fund will be advised by the Brown family to the charities and projects near and dear to Brown.

Checks can be mailed to the Arkansas Baptist Foundation, 10117 Kanis Road, Little Rock, AR 72205, with the following note in the comment section of the check: “Adam Brown Legacy Fund.”
