AMSTERDAM, N.Y. » Rep. Paul D. Tonko announced a slate of 10 improvement and community development projects, compiled from across the Capital Region, that he is submitting to the House Committee on Appropriations in a bid to bring direct federal investment to the region under the committee’s new Community Project Funding (CPF) process.

“With the right combination of visionary leadership and investment in our communities, we can unleash the untapped potential all across our Capital Region in ways that will help our people, businesses and industries grow and thrive,” Tonko said.

“In the weeks ahead, I will be working tirelessly to put federal tools and resources into the hands of the local leaders who proposed these worthy projects and know how to put federal resources to work quickly and efficiently. Together, we will uplift our communities and get our economy roaring back,” Tonko explained.

Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Representative may request funding for up to 10 projects in their community for fiscal year 2022 — although only a handful may actually be funded. Projects are restricted to a limited number of federal funding streams, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding.

“The selection process for these projects was extremely competitive and the challenge of securing funding for any one of these submissions will only grow more intense. But I will be there every step of the way and will do all I can to bring the federal dollars home that are needed to ignite our recovery and bring these deserving projects to life,” Tonko added.
