Toga girls No. 3 seed in AA bracket

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Shenendeho­wa, Averill Park, Tamarac, Cambridge and Fort Edward were all named top seeds in the upcoming Section 2 girls basketball playoff brackets released Wednesday afternoon.

The top seeds in Class AA have a week off to prepare as No. 1 Shenendeho­wa and No. 2 Albany will be the site of the quarterfin­als.

No. 9 Columbia/No. 8 Niskayuna will face Shenendeho­wa at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 with No. 5 Guilderlan­d facing No. 4 Colonie at Shen at 6 p.m.

The winner of the No. 10 Catholic Central/No. 7 Bethlehem tilt on Feb. 15 will face Albany at 7:30 p.m. with No. 6 Shaker taking on No. 3 Saratoga Springs at 6 p.m.

The Class AA semifinals are set for 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and the finals slated

for Saturday, March 2 at 2:30 p.m.

In Class A Averill Park will take on the winner of the No. 9 South Glens Falls/ No. 8 Ballston Spa tilt on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. No. 4 Holy Names will face the No. 12 Mohonasen/ No. 5 Gloversvil­le victor at 6 p.m. No. 2 Queensbury will host the No. 10 Burnt Hills/No. 7 Scotia winner at 7:30 p.m. with No. 3 Amsterdam facing the No. 11 Emma Willard/No. 6 Troy High winner at Queensbury at 6 p.m.

The Class A semifinals are set for Wednesday, Feb. 27 at HVCC at 3:30 and 5 p.m. with the finals planned for 12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 2.

Class B is filled with talent as 21 teams are taking a shot at a sectional title.

No. 1 Tamarac will host the winner of No. 17 Broadalbin-Perth/No. 16 Hudson Falls, No. 2 seeded Mechanicvi­lle will take on the No. 18 Glens Falls/No. 15 Greenville winner, No. 3 Mekeel Christian Academy will face the No. 19 Cairo-Durham/No. 14 Cohoes winner, No. 4 Voorheesvi­lle gets the winner of the No. 20 Corinth/No. 13 Fonda victor as No. 5 Schalmont has a date with No. 21 Catskill/No. 12 Watervliet.

The Class B quarterfin­als will be hosted by the higher seed and the semifinals will be hosted by Averill Park on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The Class B finals are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

In Class C, No. 1 Cambridge will host the winner of No. 17 Saratoga Central Catholic at No. 16 Canajohari­e with No. 2 Hoosic Valley facing the winner of No. 18 Galway at No. 15 Schoharie.

The quarterfin­als will be hosted by the higher seeded teams with the semifinals slated for Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Colonie High School at 6 and 7:30 p.m. The finals are set for 7:45 p.m. Friday, March 1 at HVCC.

In Class D, Fort Edward will take on the winner of the No. 9 Fort Ann at No. 8 Whitehall tilt. No. 2 Hartford will face the No. 10 Loudonvill­e-Christian/No. 7 Argyle winner.

The Class D semifinals will be hosted by Ballston Spa Monday, Feb. 25 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. Friday, March 1 at HVCC.
