Troy High, Ballston Spa pick up victories

The Flying Horses remained undefeated with a win over Colonie Friday night while Ballston Spa picked up its first win of the season with a second half rally to top Albany 20-14.

Sports Staff ALBANY >> Fresh off its win against Shaker last week — the program’s biggest since returning to Class AA — Troy (4-0 Liberty, 5-0 overall) played just well enough to win 29-2 against Colonie (1-3 Liberty, 2-3 overall) on Friday night at Colonie High School. The Garnet Raiders dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 21 of the game’s first 24 minutes. They ran 38 more plays than the Flying Horses. Still, Troy was able to score and score quickly. Running back Joey Ward ran for 98 yards on 12 carries, including a 51-yard touchdown on the Flying Horses’ first play from scrimmage. Troy also racked up 170 yards in penalties. SHAKER 34, LA SALLE 7 >> Mikael Brown scored touchdown runs of 60, 73 and 13 yards to help Shaker (4-1, 4-1) bounce back from its first loss a week ago with a 34-7 rout of La Salle (05, 0-5). Quasi Addo opened the scoring for the Blue Bison with an 8-yard run in the first quarter then quarterbac­k Wahid Nabi found Jack Bush for a 7-yard touchdown reception that made it 13-0. La Salle quarterbac­k Kyle Borey threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Franz Von Tetino for the Cadets’ only score. one quarter to improve their record to 2-0 in the division and 4-0 overall. Ryan Long went 3-for-5 through the air for 86 yards and two touchdowns for Averill Park and rushed six times for 94 yards and a touchdown. Dennon Fisher led the Warriors’ ground game with eight rushes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. BURNT HILLS-BALLSTON LAKE 62, MOHONASEN 31 >> The Spartans bounced back from its first loss of the season to rout the Warriors Friday. Mohonasen’s Ryan Deguire scored to give the visitors a 7-0 lead but Burnt Hills got touchdown runs from Ryan Agresta (2), Josh Craig and Jacob Stanko to take control of the game. Quarterbac­k Darian LaPietro threw for three touchdowns for the Spartans. the Patriots. Schuylervi­lle (3-0, 4-1) led 21-14 at the half when Sherman went to work. The sophomore quarterbac­k threw touchdown passes of 55 yards to Mitch Burroughs, 25 yards to Paul Harshbarge­r and 50 yards to Jeff Irish in the third quarter to break the game open. Thomas Donovan added a 41-yard fumble recovery touchdown to complete a 25-point third quarter for the Black Horses. Sherman finished 5-for-7 for 145 yards with four touchdowns and one intercepti­on. Irish led the Schuylervi­lle ground attack with six rushes for 76 yards, Derek Willson had 12 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown and Harshbarge­r rushed 10 times for 69 yards and a touchdown. B-P fell to 0-2 in the North Division and 1-4 overall. 4-1 overall) separated itself with a convincing win over Holy Trinity (1-2 Central, 3-2 overall), 32-7, at Stillwater High School on Friday night.

The win puts the Warriors no worse than second place in the standings ahead of next week’s marquee matchup against the Red Raiders in the Indian Bowl.

Freshman running back Mason Seymour stepped in for the injured Dan Morris and scored three touchdowns to lead the Warriors. For most of the night, Seymour was Stillwater’s offense, touching the ball 41 times, getting the offense’s first carry of the night, its last and most of the ones in between. HOOSICK FALLS 32, TAMARAC 6>> Aaron Tomczak completed 8-of-21 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown while Tristan Hunt rushed 23 times for 140 yards and two scores to lead the Panthers (2-3, 2-3) to a big win over the Bengals (2-2, 2-3). The Hoosick Falls defense interecept­ed Tamarac quarterbac­k Matt Fox four times in the contest. Joe Ballato rushed 20 times for 143 and the Bengals’ lone touchdown. GREENWICH 42, LAKE GEORGE/HADLEY-LUZERNE 0>> Cole Burgess scored touchdowns on two runs and a blocked punt in the first quarter to set the tone as the Witches bounced back from a loss a week ago with a big win Friday. The junior added a 49yard touchdown run to put Greenwich (3-1, 4-1) up 28-0 at halftime. Senior Brendan Stout added a 30-yard intercepti­on return for a touchdown in the third quarter for the Witches. Lake George/Hadley-Luzerne fell to 2-1 in the Class C North Division and 3-2 overall. CORINTH 30, GRANVILLE 12 >> The Tomahawks jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and cruised to their first win of the season.

Corinth (1-2, 1-4) running back Steve Ackerman rushed for touchdowns of three, six and five yards in the victory over Granville (0-4, 0-5).
