Summer fun
Souderton Mennonite Homes: The annual Chicken BBQ, Silent Auction and Gospel Music Fest is held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at 207 W. Summit St., Franconia Township. The event also includes a bake sale, a car show, crafters, a flea market, games, inflatables, a petting zoo, pony rides, a photo booth and a 12:30 show by the Suburban Dog Training Club. Main St., Hatfield, the Peach Festival features a craft fair, silent auction, games, and food, drinks and snacks for purchase. ... and a movie Congregation Beth Or: RSVP by Aug. 24 for a Selichot Dinner, Movie & Worship, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1. A communal deli-style meal is followed by a screening of the movie “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” followed by a music-filled service where the Torah covers are changed to white. Congregation Tiferet Bet Israel: The Tiferet Bet Israel Gets Reel Filmfest concludes with “Hava Nagila (The Movie)” at 10:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Aug. 21 in the library at 1920 Skippack Pike, Whitpain. There is no admission charge, and the popcorn is on the house. “Hava Nagila (The Movie)” is a documentary about through the history, mystery and meaning of the Jewish standard, featuring interviews with Harry Belafonte, Leonard Nimoy, Connie Francis, Glen Campbell and more.

Congregation Tiferet Bet Israel: A Tot Shabbat Morning Gathering is held at 11 a.m. today at the synagogue at 1920 Skippack Pike, Whitpain. It will feature singing, storytelling and other interactive experiences. The 40-minute service will be followed by a bimah adventure to help lead Adon Olam in the main sanctuary. Christ Lutheran Church: The Indian Valley Cluster Service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church at 2211 Mainland Road, Towamencin. Lutherans from Advent, Harleysville; Little Zion, Telford; St. Paul’s, Telford; and Emmanuel, Souderton are invited. There will be a community choir from the congregations and Holy Communion. The service will be led by the cluster pastors who cover for each other during vacations. A fellowship brunch will follow. Church of the Holy Spirit: A Celtic Healing Service is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 23, preceded by a bring-yourown picnic. The church is at Barndt Road and Sumneytown Pike, Upper Salford.

Tabor United Methodist Church: The church is giving away free backpacks and school supplies to students pre-K through high school from 9 a.m. to noon today at 2209 Hendricks Station Road, Woxall. Christ Covenant Church: During August the church at 2200 Mainland Road, Towamencin, will be supporting Shepherd’s Shelf in Kulpsville with donations of non-perishable food items. Supplies especially needed in restocking the pantry are: cereal, applesauce, canned fruits/vegetables, dried fruit and granola bars, stewed tomatoes, tomato paste, peanut butter and jelly, beef stew, spaghetti sauce, chili, instant potatoes, minute rice, hamburger helper and spaghetti-o’s, mac and cheese, shampoo, body wash, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, diapers, baby wipes, detergent and paper products.
