Stove and Tap wins Business of the Month award
Restaurant recognized for creating downtown destination
LANSDALE >> The July winner of Lansdale’s Business of the Month award is a relative newcomer to town, but one that’s had a big impact.
Stove and Tap is echoing the sentiment that the Economic Development Committee has always had: “Lansdale is open for business,” said committee member Richard Strahm.
Located at 320 W. Main St. at the corner of Main and Wood, Stove and Tap opened in March after lengthy remodeling of the former Molly Maguire’s Irish Pub site. The building renovation was performed with local contractors, and Strahm said co-owners Justin Weathers and Matt Moyer and executive chef Biff Gottehrer deserve credit for bringing their restaurant experience at some of Philadelphia’s top names to a new hot spot drawing hundreds of diners daily over the past four months.
“As you look at the happy crowds, and the eclectic and welcoming decor, and as you enjoy the amazing food, remind yourself that you’re in downtown Lansdale,” Strahm said.
“This restaurant could be in some of the trendiest neighborhoods of Philadelphia, or any city, but we have it here in Lansdale,” he said.
Stove and Tap and offers American-style food with locally-sourced beer, spirits, desserts and more, and as he showed a slide show of the restaurant’s food and staff interspersed with photos of the menu, Strahm described to borough council on July 20 how it has earned rave reviews online and in regional publications, while drawing visitors from across the area.
“It’s this time of involvement in the local business community that is helping make Stove and tap so successful. The lesson learned: collaboration with other local businesses, even some that might be seen as competition, is a way to take a business to the next level,” Strahm said.
Why does the restaurant deserve the business award so soon after opening? Because, Strahm said, he’s noticed on frequent visits that the buzz they have created for their own restaurant has led visitors to try other destinations in town.
“They are helping put Lansdale on the map, and are proving that we truly are a town in motion,” he said. “The value to our borough and our economic development is priceless.”
Stove and Tap is also involved with the Penn-Suburban Chamber of Greater Montgomery County, sponsors of local events like the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival and a local T-ball team, and has helped enliven downtown by hosting live music on borough First Fridays, Strahm said.
“For the physically stunning restaurant they have built, for the phenomenal food they serve, for the economic impact they are making in our borough, please join me in congratulating Stove and Tap as our newest Business of the Month,” he said.
The business also employs over 40 local residents, and trains them constantly, according to Strahm; the owners have also recently been awarded the high bid for purchase of the former borough-owned arts center building at 311 W. Main St.
After receiving the recognition, Weathers said he recognized several parents of his employees at the council meeting when he received the award.
“It’s been a great short time for us to be here, and to get such great feedback. We’re glad to be a part of Lansdale,” he said.
Stove and Tap is located at 329 W. Main St. in Lansdale and is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
