Hope Hicks — 5 things to know
Here are five things to know about Hope Hicks, a Greenwich native, who is returning to the White House to serve as a counselor to President Donald Trump.
Hope Hicks was a tweenage and teenage model while growing up in Greenwich.
She posed for a Ralph Lauren advertising campaign with her sister Mary Grace. She was also the face of the “Hourglass Adventures” novels about a time-traveling 10-year-old and was the cover model for “The It Girl,” the first novel in the series by Cecily von Ziegesar.
She was a standout lacrosse player at Greenwich High.
Hicks was co-captain of the lacrosse team at Greenwich High — Class of 2006 — and won the state championship. She majored in English at Southern Methodist University, played on a club lacrosse program and graduated in 2010.
Her high school yearbook photo was accompanied by a Jimmy Buffett quote.
These words from the “Margaritaville” singer appear under Hicks’ senior year photo: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” There’s also a shout-out to her family and a message to the girls: “Never give up on the good times.”
The Hicks family has been involved in Republican politics.
Her father Paul Hicks III was a Greenwich selectman from 1987 to 1991. For two of those years, (now governor) Ned Lamont was also a member of the Board of Selectmen. Paul Hicks was also a former chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Stewart B. McKinney.
Her parents got married in town while they both worked for congressmen.
Caye Ann Cavender, who was then a legislative aide for U.S. Rep. Ed Jones, D-Tenn., married Paul Burton Hicks, who worked for McKinney at the time, on May 15, 1982, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich.
