Senior art show winners announced

SOUTHBURY — Pomperaug Woods senior living community recently announced the recipients of the 12th Annual Connecticu­t Senior Juried Art Show awards. First, second and third place awards were presented in four categories: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture and Photograph­y. The Tommie Davis Award for best in show is given to the artist who best demonstrat­es “the feeling of beauty and life in his/her artwork.” Additional awards include most expressive, most innovative, abstract and best execution. An employee choice award and a resident choice award will be announced on Friday, Sept. 20 at the opening reception for artists and their guests.

Richard Collette, from Waterbury, is this year’s winner of the Tommie Davis Award, or “Best in Show,” for “Wickham.”

Lisa Huebenthal, director of community life services at Pomperaug Woods, said the community is proud of the art show’s continued growth. She said that they received 221 entries this year from 122 seniors from 39 Connecticu­t towns.

The art show, where the winning pieces will be on display, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22 at Pomperaug Woods, located at 80 Heritage Road in Southbury. The event is free and open to the public.

The 2019 award winners are: Tommie Davis Award: Richard Collette, Waterbury – “Wickham”; Most Expressive: Barbara Kalin, New Hartford – “Carla, Waiting”; Most Innovative: Ann Moore, Southbury – “Used”; Abstract: Ellen Fisher, Coventry – “Waves”; Best Execution: William Rorick, Southbury – “Portrait of Albert Einstein (18791955)”.

Painting Category: First Place – Kathy Arthur, Chester – “Chester Village”; Second Place – Dorothy Dupont, Cheshire – “Music Transcends Words”; Third Place –
