Photography show welcomes over 40 artists
KENT — “Stunning” is how one visitor described the Kent Art Association’s 2nd annual Photography Show that opened on Saturday at the association’s Gallery in Kent.
More than 40 photographers entered close to 100 photographs that range from small and idyllic to wild and exotic. The walls of the downstairs galleries are covered with color and black and white photographs that offer something for every taste. Five photographers had their work singled out for awards, a difficult pick for the two judges — award winning photographer Deborah Rose who works for the New Milford Spectrum and award winning artist Susan Grisell, whose works are admired by collectors in Europe as well as the U.S.
The coveted “Best in Show” award went to Jeffrey Kellner of Kent, for his photograph of a leaf, titled “Ambivalent #2”, that one of the judges described as “mesmerizing.”
The award for Color Photography went to Lisa Berger of Newtown for her photograph of piles of metal, titled “Off the Rail”; the award for Black & White photography went to Karin Smith of Kent for her portrait of the late New Milford artist Woldemar Neufeld. The Nontraditional (digitally altered) award went to Judith Secco of Bantam for her photograph titled “Hydrangeas.”
The two Awards of Excellence went to Linda McMillen of New Milford for her photograph of an old barn titled “A Winter’s Tale” and Nina McKitty of Goshen for her photograph of a white flower and its reflection on a dark surface, titled “Diva.”
