TORRINGTON » The Torrington Parks and Recreation Department is offering the following themed camps during the 2017 Summer Session.
Make the Play Basketball Camp: Led by Leron Williams, this basketball camp is open to boys and girls entering grades 3 - 9, July 31-Aug. 4. at Torrington Middle School. The fee is $120 per person. Participants will learn a variety of skills taught by numerous players and coaches with many years of experience. Areas of concentration will include individual and team offensive skills, individual and team defense, ball handling, rebounding, passing, as well as strategy sessions on the “finer” points of the game.
Multi Sports and Multi Sports Squirts: New to the 2017 lineup, these camps are designed to expose participants to a number of different sports in a safe, structured and fun environment. Taught by US Sports Institute, a leader in developing an atmosphere that promotes integrity, self-esteem, positive values and good sportsmanship, these camps are open to boys and girls and run from Monday – Friday, July 24-28, at the Oak Avenue Sports Complex. There are two sessions for younger and older children.
Mad Science Brixology – LEGO Engineering Camp: A new camp from Mad Science, participants learn about different engineering concepts and then team up to create a different project using LEGO Building Blocks. This camp runs Aug. 7-11 at Coe Memorial Park Civic Center and is $180 per person. Designed for ages 6-11, participants will learn about aerospace engineering as they build a space station, and mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles. Additional explorations include mechanical animals, carnival rides and truss bridges.
